Lead Control System Engineer
Deepa Dasari loves a challenge. She is a passionate engineer who relishes solving technical problems and collaborating with her clients to achieve excellent outcomes. Deepa embodies PSA Engineering’s trademark can-do attitude. As Lead Control System Engineer, she manages our major clients, including Rio Tinto.
With over 15 years of experience, Deepa built her impressive career working across complex projects for Yokogawa in Australia, India and Singapore. A natural leader, she brings people together on a project always to achieve great outcomes. For Deepa, strong client relationships are a vital component of a successful project. Collaborating and working together as a team with and facilitating the free flow of information and skills underscores her approach to project management.
“We have amazing team dynamics with many of our clients, where we help them understand products and solutions,” says Deepa. “Working together in this type of dynamic helps us overcome a lot of technical challenges.”
Deepa is driven by an ongoing dedication to learning. And coupled with her technical expertise, it’s a commitment that goes a long way to explaining the dedication she gives to every project she works on. For Deepa, doing the best job possible is an opportunity for growth.
“Growth has nothing to do with your position or your job title,” says Deepa. “For me, it’s all about learning. Anytime I’m asked to do something different I never say ‘that’s not my skill set’, because I see it as an opportunity to learn or experience something new. I enjoy learning. And when you add up everything you’ve learnt in a year – it’s just amazing.”
Time management is a discipline that Deepa has honed over the years and has become an essential skill in her everyday life. As a new mother with a young family, she utilises her professional skills to juggle family and work commitments. It also helps that PSA Engineering has created a family-friendly workplace where Deepa has the flexibility to work to her own schedule.
At PSA Engineering flexibility is about more than helping our team achieve work-life balance. It’s also about giving highly skilled engineers like Deepa the opportunity to utilise the full deck of their talents. This has allowed her the opportunity to not only take the lead on complex projects but to also take a step back and focus solely on the technical side of a project or step in and manage the commissioning process.
“I enjoy having diversity in the role because I feel that I should have that depth of experience,” says Deepa. “As a project manager, you need a lot of deep technical knowledge to solve problems and help your team if they get stuck. And then there are projects where I can just be an engineer and enjoy the technical side.”
It should come as no surprise that Deepa looks to the future and the continued integration of Industry 4.0 with anticipation. It’s an area of specific interest to her. She sees it as an incremental process where PSA Engineering is uniquely placed to help clients with integration. And once again, it all comes back to flexibility, this time in design and execution.
“We give our clients solutions with flexibility so we can future proof each stage for them,” says Deepa, “because technology is like a newborn baby; it changes every day. Industry 4.0 is not any one technology but the integration of key concepts, including IoT and big data analytics.”
